These seem kind of extreme. Vivien Send a noteboard - 15/12/2011 06:03:15 AM

So let's move on to the Wedding Reception. NOT EVERYONE COMING TO THE WEDDING HAS TO BE FED! Have a dinner for the wedding party and a dance and drinks for everyone else.
I'm a big fan of pot-luck, if you want, have friends or relatives not in the wedding party put together a pot-luck for those who aren't in the wedding party.
Have a Supper Club or Hall of some kind set up for dancing when you expect wedding party dinner to be over. Have a DJ or local band and open beer bar, if the guest want something stronger than beer it is an option but they have to pay.

These are the suggestions that are iffy. Not feeding everyone at the reception? I've never heard of that before. It seems that going to city hall to sign the contracts and then just throwing a party for relatives and friends to celebrate would be a better option (and I've been to several "wedding parties" that were like this). Really doesn't seem right to have a vip type section that gets food and everyone else just get drinks (that they would still have to pay for!?).

Cash bar- lame. Reaaally does not fly with russians. Russians actually go a step further and prefer for the bottles of alcohol to be on the tables and not just behind the bar. My father says that having to go to the bar and having to ask the bartender in order to have a drink means the host doesn't want people to drink /host is cheap. At the bar mitzvah I attended recently, there was a bar and a bartender waiting to make drinks but there was also a table with bottles of vodka just there so anyone could just pour their own shots.

I am looking to drop about a grand on my son's rehearsal dinner *NM* - 12/12/2011 04:42:53 PM 565 Views
Well, part of it is that the rehearsal dinner isn't on the $5k budget. - 12/12/2011 04:46:30 PM 1011 Views
It is avoidable, but people will treat you like you're a nutcase if you don't do most of the things - 12/12/2011 05:02:14 PM 1064 Views
my first wedding was in church with a pretty dress and a preacher - 12/12/2011 06:12:02 PM 998 Views
