Which is quite a big compliment coming from someone who doesn't like small dogs. :P

It is, but I've already come across the occasional schnauzie on my searches. I wouldn't be able to have a puppy, but I'm ok saving an older fella. What I've done is look up schnauzer specific rescues, and there are quite a few people involved. We'll see. We're not quite ready yet, or I'd get Lily (link).

Definitely not the kind of thing you can rush.

I'd like our first dog(s) to be a mongrel. Preferably with Labrador in there somewhere, but not too fussy. My dog (that I had to get put down) was a Border Collie/mongrel mix and though naughty she was lovely. I miss her. :(

I like the naughty ones, as long as it's manageable naughtiness. ;) I'm still kinda nervous about either of those breeds though (labs, collies), because of the energy level. I'm not sure I could provide enough exercise.

Understandable. It's one of the reasons why I like them (apart from growing up with Labradors and German Shepherds). They also encourage me to get a bit more exercise, and they're great for children.
