I get why Republicans will swallow their gorge and vote for him; they loathe Obama and cannot prevent Romneys nomination as the only alternative. I get why independents and moderates are so disappointed with Obamas failures (heaven knows I am) they are reluctant to vote for him again. What I do not get is why anyone not among those groups would even briefly consider voting FOR Romney rather than against Obama.

We have no clue what President Romney would do, because he has firmly embraced BOTH ends of the spectrum on nearly all issues at different times. Eight years ago his pollster said no pro-lifer could be governor of MA, so he went to Planned Parenthood fundraisers—now he vows to end federal Planned Parenthood funding because he wants the GOP nomination. He is a pro-gun hunter—but has never held a hunting license. His only political accomplishments are balancing the MA budget with tax hikes, and creating Robamacare—both of which he now categorically condemns to get far right voters. Three years ago he wrote an op ed demanding Obama pass the health care bill he now pledges to repeal once in office. The only guarantee is he WILL reverse any current position one likes now.

Romney is a satirists caricature of a politician; I cannot recall another candidate so brazenly mercenary and opportunistic. His policy is as murky and contradictory as, well, the theology of the church he helps lead. All we know about him is that we know nothing about him. Even most Republicans are not "comfortable" with him; they tolerate him as a necessary evil, which I at least understand even if disagree. I do not understand how anyone can see anything POSITIVE in his candidacy.
