. . . why bother with a timed sentence at all? Why not just sentence him to life? Will they let him out when he's 85 and can't harm anyone? Would the point of that make people feel better about themselves, make them think they're civilized or something like that? I don't get it.


I mean, yes, it was horrific, and yes, he doesn't seem like the type to reform. But the point of this system (and other parole-like systems) is that if he can be found, beyond a doubt, that he's reformed, he feels remorse, he's not a danger to anyone, etc. then there's no point in keeping him locked up.


It might be applicable for smaller crimes, but for something of this caliber, the criminal should be just locked in a cage and the key thrown away.
