As I understand it, there are very good reasons why they don't let women on submarines. Tim Send a noteboard - 28/09/2009 09:50:39 PM
1. Submarine crews with mostly men and a few women are a bad idea, for pretty obvious reasons.

2. Submarine crews with all women or mostly women are a bad idea because their periods would synchronise. This means that once a month, everyone on the submarine would be menstruating, which would have a negative effect on the efficacy of the crew as a whole.

Reason 2 may not be very PC, but I think military commanders have other priorities.

I'm not sure if there's medication that could be used to mitigate the problem, or if the navy would be able to say that everyone in a female submarine crew had to take it, but could be one way round the problem.
