The selling point of the iOS products isn't their technological prowess but rather their ease-of-use (although Android products have improved quite a bit in that regard). My youngest brother loves his Android phone/Kindle Fire combo and while the Fire is the only semi-Android device I've operated, it seems easy to use as well.
Basically, as long as it's easy to use and doesn't cost too much then that's what they'll go for, if they do get one.
