Sure, he won, and it was safely outside recount but lower than the last 4 who got re-elected, hence no mandate, and only Reagan didn't leave his party in a screwed state when he left. Skin of teeth might be a bit excessive but this isn't some death knell for the GOP


i was only responding to your comment about the closeness of the election.

and there is one thing that i would consider this election to show strong support, if not an outright mandate, for the policies of the first term actually being given a chance to work. in addition, it's pretty obvious that a lot of people want to see some kind of compromise between the two sides with the way so many tea party candidates were defeated. so if those two things are not mandates, they are two of the biggest lessons i would take from this election.
