Sin taxes on fat and sugar. What do you think? kHz1000 Send a noteboard - 13/11/2012 09:19:33 AM
Apparently the Danish government has abandoned plans for a sugar tax while also scrapping the fat tax that was implemented in 2011. The French are planning a tax on palm oil ('Nutella tax' ). Here we have an excise tax specifically on candies, sodas and ice cream.

Do you think fatty and/or sugary products should be taxed more heavily than other foodstuffs? Why/Why not?

Personally I would like to see more imaginative health policy. Now it just seems like people are thinking that _of course_ sugar and fat consumption will decrease by raising taxes. And then when nothing at all happens people can just say 'hey, we tried' and what was done to supposedly improve people's health ends up just being fiscal policy.
