I started raising chickens almost 2 years ago. I have steadily been trying to grow/raise/preserve my own food. When I can't, I like to get them from a local source. I'm not a total snob about it, because one can't grow tequila/agave,certain nuts, avocados, etc in zone 4. :P. I just ordered a few fruit trees. My son is now in 2nd grade. I have been married for ten years now. Uh... I am currently unemployed, but really having fun enjoying the simple things in life. I might not go back to work full time. I rather like having all this time to devote to gardening and small livestock. Getting meat chickens in the spring, and I'm going to process them myself. Ive never even cleaned a fish I've caught, so it should be interesting. I have had to cull a few chickens before, and I have helped with deer harvest before, so I'll be fine. I hope.

I have hated gardening ever since I was a kid and my dad made me do it, but there are times that I'd like to take a small patch and grow sunflowers and learn how to harvest them right and make better-tasting seeds and sunflower oil than what I can buy in stores. I've gutted/cleaned fish before, but never a chicken. Best of luck on that! :P
