I am led to believe that, if the Pope ceased to be a Catholic, he would automatically cease to be the Pope. This is the argument of the antipope Michael in Argentina: everyone who signed up to Vatican II was a heretic,, therefore not a Catholic, therefore not the pope or a cardinal. Consequently, none of the popes in Rome since then were elected by real cardinals, therefore the guy in Argentina is the true pope.

(I love intentionally misunderstanding people :D).
