I personally find HR departments a waste (but that's another issue). Palatine Send a noteboard - 13/01/2014 04:41:29 PM

View original postBut then there are the partners, who are 1/3 of our group by body count - now I'm very tempted to start counting their vacation days. Would it be hypocritical to set one standard, and then not follow it?

By partners, I assume you mean the bosses. Bosses can do whatever they want. Hypocritical, no, but neither is it fair. But since their the bosses they don't have to be fair in this regard.

View original postHere's the thing - we are not hourly workers. We are exempt from overtime, and expected to work as much as required to get it done. When needed, I am in the office until 9pm or 10pm. So rules like that feel like a slap in the face.

Ok, I'm with you on this one. As a salaried worker, if the day's work done in an hour you should be able to leave in an hour without penalty.

View original postThe rule makes sense, but I don't think it needed to be codified. We are all very mindful of not leaving the group hanging... I don't think anyone has ever just took days off on a lark. If you are sick, of course there's no advance notice. So really, what was the point of that directive?

The codification may simply be for legal reasons.

View original postAlright, now on to my sense of betrayal - justified, right?

If you and your fellow employees haven't done anything "wrong," then I can understand that feeling. Since you do feel so strongly about it, you might want to ask the reasons for the changes. Don't go in saying that you don't like them, but that you just want information about why they were made. The reasons may have nothing directly to do with the employees.
