There are very few things I judge a person on without speaking to them, but for political beliefs it's a pretty clear indicator of what kind of person you're talking to.
Take BNP voters, they're either racists or people who dont understand what the BNP are really about and see it as a protest vote. You cant read a lot into peoples religious/politcal beliefs.
