Especially about "organic" food in general- . If we as a population have to eat, then food has to be mass-produced. If the price of a food goes up a dime on the dollar people flip out. You get what you pay for, and we as a nation are a bunch of cheapskates. You reap what you sow, I guess.
However..
more than one chicken per square foot is overcrowded. Not as bad as some of the other horror stories you hear, but crowded just the same. They could do with a touch more space.
Broiler hens are not subjected to as terrible conditions as laying hens, but yuck.
also, their feed- while nutritionally sound, isn't what they would normaly be eating, "organic" or not.
I'm getting chickens in the spring, for eggs.
I have the luxury of ordering local sides of beef, pork, buffalo, and I am getting a free range turkey for thankgiving.
It's not just luck that I live this way. I wouldn't have it any other way.

flock-to-flock contamination is quite a problem if you're trying to not feed the birds antibiotics.
