But to answer your question. I my line of work when I email those I work with or those that work in the same line of work, when I am talking about sales figures or projections I use the exact numbers. I don't embellish the figures up or down. There is a truth to the numbers. If those numbers are sales, labor costs, overhead on properties or what have you. Even in a simple email correspondence one should always use the straight up numbers they have on hand. I would think that any scientist worth a grain of salt would hold to the scientific truth that the numbers are the numbers and not something to be toyed with or deviated from. I am not saying that it is a conspiracy about global warming. I am just saying that I find it disturbing that there is the appearance of impropriety. Or that is what I gathered from the article. Some will use it as a platform to attack the science. I am not trying to attack the science. Just wonder what those guys were thinking.

I haven't seen any indication that they were not operating with fact. The use of the word "trick" is something I have seen my boyfriend use too many times when referring to a time-saving way of doing maths for it to be the least suspicious.
