Review something with a bit of depth and encourage others to do so. Some things don't warrant a good review (e.g., Avatar) but other things (books, movies, people) are filled with depth and emotion that you have every opportunity to point out.
I pissed off the people who read mostly or only Fantasy and Science Fiction enough to have a post that was viewed over 900 times with around 250 replies, so it is possible to touch a nerve. I think the problem here is that no one is doing it themselves. They've taken a wait and see approach to the site and don't bother because they're concerned about what the response is.
Worrying about the response shows you're posting for the wrong reasons.
