There's may be a double standard, but there's a far better example of it in Geraldine Ferraro, than there is in Trent Lott. Ferraro's words, comparing his experience as a candidate to the harsh treatment Clinton has been experiencing:

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position...and if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

For this statement, arguably a LOT less offensive (if it's offensive at all) than Reid's, and she is bumped from Team Clinton in abject disgrace, and Clinton has to apologize ad nauseum.

Sad that the GOP keep going on about Lott, when there's a decidedly less morally dubious example to use.
