1. Do you like musicals? Why (not)?


I've seen Les Mis, Moving Out and Mamma Mia (my parents are to credit for taking me to the last two). I liked Les Mis, really good music, interesting characters, and a great story. Moving out was bad at best (unless you're a Billy Joel fan), and Mamma Mia was mediocre, the big problem for me being ABBA's annoying music. I think I would still enjoy musicals a la Les Mis ... but I don't care for 'pop music'als.

That being said, if I'm paying the money, I'm going to the Opera.

2. Do you like opera? Why (not)?


Yes I do ... largely because opera is most closely related to the music I love most, so getting into it was really just a natural extension for me. It's really as simple as that.

3. What's your favorite musical?


Les Mis (obviously)

4. What elevates it above the rest?


As I stated I only saw three, and the other two were essentially greatest hits of Billy Joel or ABBA with a story threaded through (an attempt at a story in the Billy Joel one).

5. What's your favorite opera?


As much as I talk about Opera, I've only taken the opportunity to see/listen to eight front to back (I'm poor, so buying tickets/DVD's isn't easy). Of those, I think Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen is the most enjoyable. The animated version I saw is almost like a Disney movie in some ways. Really enjoyable.

6. What elevates it above the rest?


Enjoyable music, talking animals, fascinating story. The animated version has nostalgia factor too (I love the Fox and the Hound for instance, a not completely unrelated movie story wise). Anyway ...

BONUS POINTS: Do you or have you ever teared up while watching Les Misérables? If not, how does it feel to lack a soul?
don't remember, I was 13 or 14 when I watched it.
