It tastes a bit like beef but it peels sort of like boiled lamb. They fix it in big chunks with potato, thin layers of pasta (like in lasagna) and onion. The dish is called beshbarmak. Accent is on the last syllable.

because if they are then horse meat is "haram" for them. we are not allowed to eat beasts of burden like horses and donkeys....

They also fix a sausage from it called qaza. I don't like that as much because it has a weird taste. Perhaps that is the "real" horse taste.
