I don't think it's racist at all MalkierKnight Send a noteboard - 22/03/2010 07:15:55 PM
Though I might say it's racially insensitive. "Blacker" might be vernacular in Dutch, I have no idea, but there's nothing hateful about calling music that is predominantly black, black music. It's only negative if you think it is. And if anything, the Dutch commercial is glorifying that type of music. Black people take credit for creating jazz, hip hop, r and b, so no one should object to calling it black music. If I made a table, I certainly wouldn't object to people calling it Alex's table.

Now, if everyone got together and called my table inferior to the others and made fun of my table, then we might have an issue.

But I don't think that's what's going on at all in the Dutch commercial.

Anyone who calls it racist is just being overly sensitive.

At worst, I'd say the commercial is a little crude (calling music black or white instead of soulful/contemporary or classic), but Dutch people probably have a crude exposure to diversity.
You must unlearn what you have learned.

Not "higher" nor "lower," but "different" would be the word to use here - 29/03/2010 07:46:15 PM 719 Views
