People seem to forget that Mass Effect has ALWAYS been a shooter. It just hasn't been a good one. ME2 certainly improved the shooter/combat portion of the game, but I think Bioware intends to have their game more up to par with games like Gears, Halo, CoD, and the like. All the while they'll maintain it's RPG foundation, but yeah, the shooter aspect does need more work.
