I can't wait to see the Edition Wars™ flare up again. Kaldric Send a noteboard - 10/01/2012 02:55:27 PM
I'm in a 4E game now, and I am really enjoying it, but I think I prefer 3.5. I always found it interesting when people say that 4E is only for power gaming. Either we have different definitions of "power gaming" or people really weren't paying attention during 3.5. I like 4E for its simplicity and ease of setting up a game. I like 3.5 (and Pathfinder) for the ability to make a character that can do a crap-load of damage to the bad guys.

The problem with 3.5 is that it is easy to make a character less effective in combat or other areas. We had one player who was so proud of the "really powerful" character he made for a game, only to be frustrated and disappointed after seeing how it actually worked in combat, especially compared to a few other characters. It's a lot harder to make an ineffective character in 4E, but it's a lot harder to make an overpowered character in 4E, too.

I signed up to participate in the 5E playtesting, so we'll see how that goes when it starts coming out. I wonder how much player input they will really use, or if it's just lip-service. Regardless, I'll give it a shot when it comes out, and if I don't like it, I can always go back to a previous edition.

P.S. The "NSSP" is implied.

Of course, [Quixote] carried it a bit too far. He thought that every windmill was a giant. That's insane. But, thinking that they might be...
