Three words: ancient blue dragon. It takes an absurdly long time to get there (which I entirely skipped, I must confess, using my dragon druid just for some high level module), but once you get there, it's really very cool. 700 or so hit points and towering damage resistance plus being able to run away, go Heal and switch back for another round makes for pretty much the next best thing to invincibility against most enemies. As long as the enemy's damage resistance isn't even better, that is.
Of course, I don't know if dragon shape exists in the pen and paper version...
