As to that... Legolas Send a noteboard - 06/05/2012 11:10:28 PM
I'd be cool with games just having save points... Or at least not letting you save the game in the middle of battles or other significant events where death is likely.

Diablo II had an interesting system with regard to saving. You couldn't save in the normal sense of the term - the kind that allows you to go back to your last saved game and try your fight again. When you die, you respawn back in the safe zone (at least, unless you're one of the complete lunatics who play hardcore and get no respawning), but without all your gear - you'll have to get back to the place you died to go pick your gear up, and if the creature(s) that killed you are still hanging around there, as they generally are, that can be tricky. Though if the situation is really too impossible, you can quit and reload, and your corpse with your gear will be transported inside the safe zone. The only thing you'll have lost then is some gold - and whichever progress you'd already made on the enemy you were fighting when you died. Oh, and all monsters respawn - if you died a long way from a waypoint, there'll be more than a little to redo.

It's certainly a system that motivates you to avoid dying more than a simple "reload from save game" would.

i didn't get my invite until just recently - 01/05/2012 03:44:56 PM 810 Views
I did the beta weekend. It's okay. Not something I'd pay $50 for. *NM* - 01/05/2012 08:50:44 PM 501 Views
My reaction as well. *NM* - 04/05/2012 07:04:02 PM 342 Views
You mean Torchlight II + $30? *NM* - 02/05/2012 03:41:57 AM 333 Views
It felt like Diablo 2 with a less compelling art style. - 02/05/2012 07:33:55 PM 663 Views
Goddamn, we're a cynical bunch. Good luck having any fun on this forum! *NM* - 05/05/2012 04:28:58 AM 362 Views
No, we're just rational. If you like dungeon crawlers, get Torchlight 2 and save money. *NM* - 07/05/2012 11:09:38 AM 349 Views
I don't know about Torchlight 2 (or Diablo III), but... - 07/05/2012 10:23:08 PM 730 Views
I would agree with that. - 08/05/2012 01:44:04 AM 745 Views
So what's this serious like/about anyway? - 05/05/2012 05:30:42 AM 648 Views
If it's anything like Diablo II, you don't need anything to get into it. - 05/05/2012 07:31:19 AM 663 Views
It's what they call a combat rpg - there's not much role-playing to it, admittedly. - 05/05/2012 05:27:39 PM 686 Views
Character building is completely differnt from Diablo 2. It should be much harder to screw yourself. - 05/05/2012 07:47:30 PM 606 Views
Aww. They keep dumbing things down for us. How sweet. - 05/05/2012 09:49:52 PM 654 Views
I agee with the principle, just not the saving thing - 05/05/2012 10:55:13 PM 635 Views
Well... - 06/05/2012 06:06:25 PM 737 Views

Heh heh . - 07/05/2012 04:47:54 AM 643 Views
You got as far as Diablo? On a computer that had lag? - 07/05/2012 10:20:58 PM 685 Views
I'm sorry, that was inaccurate. - 08/05/2012 04:06:17 AM 718 Views
The diablo animations were laggy on just about any computer. - 08/05/2012 06:27:48 AM 716 Views
You remind me of a Brood War player. *NM* - 06/05/2012 06:50:35 PM 304 Views
Hm. I actually don't mind an overhaul of the levelling. - 07/05/2012 03:02:20 PM 654 Views
