I was a collector of games and what I learned from it is you'll probably have a hard time getting a personal relation to your items if you don't own a hard copy and can't see or touch them.

The games will lose their worth (monetary and nostalgic wise) to people if they got no relation to the thing they own. (If you can talk of owning something that exists only in digital form?)Digitaly distributed games run the risk of being treated as something you only wear and tear and then throw away.

Look at the way books are revered, why shouldn't games be treated the same way?
