Med stuff is still interesting, though. My mum is saying she doesn't want to pay for a scope/biopsies unless she knows what's wrong with me, ie, what she'd be paying for. But the whole point of those things is to find out... I've seen the GP again since my last journal, and all she's got is, "It still looks like Crohn's to me. You need a scope to diagnose it."
I will feel SO STUPID if I do it and it turns out that there's nothing.
I really don't think I'm just dreaming up an illness... for one thing, Crohn's Disease (or similar) would be one of the last I'd ever choose to have. But sometimes they just don't find the problem, and then you're out $400. *shrug*

what you COULD try...
is editing your diet to mirror a Crohn's diet and gauge its effects. you should still get a medical diagnosis, but you could have a stronger argument to give your mom. "It's acting like Crohns and responds like Crohns, but for me to get proper medical aid, I need an actual Crohn's diagnosis, so I need to scoping." or "It did not respond like Crohn's, so a scoping is very important to give the doctor's some where to look next"
Really, it's a silly point of view anyways. Like not getting a flu shot because you don't know if you'll come in contact with the flu, or not having a Pap smear because you don't know if you have cervical cancer. that's kinda the point

Why would you feel stupid? You won't know unless you get the test.
Are you thinking $400.00 vs. knowledge of your well-being? Cause if you are, I gotta go with the knowledge. One way or the other. If it turns out not to be Crohns, then you've ruled that out and you go on to the next step: yet another test. It's just the way it is.
BTW. My cousin has Crohn's. You should get the test immediately in order to get relief as soon as possible. You don't fuck around with Crohn's. Or any other medical issue for that matter.
Good luck!

You'd feel a lot more stupid if you didn't get the test, the symptoms got worse, they do the test later, and it turns out to be something they could've caught and treated now, though, wouldn't you?
Also don't feel silly or like you're making it up. I think I mentioned my boyfriend had a colonoscopy not too long ago. He had his follow up appointment today - they found absolutely nothing to explain his symptoms (so no scary diseases thankfully!) but the doctor made a point of stressing that that doesn't mean he's making it up. They're now going with a diagnosis of IBS and hoping it can be diet-controlled - but IBS is still *real*, and if the dietary changes help he'll feel so much better.
Honestly, I think your mum is looking at this wrong. If they knew what it was, they wouldn't have to test for it - and *then* it'd be a waste of $400. However they don't know, but they think your symptoms justify finding out what's going on. These people don't go to school for gods know how many years to do random unnecessary tests...
Jees, we make a pair, don't we?

I suppose there is a chance they won't find this problem, and spending money on that sucks. But if they don't find what they were looking for, it means it is something else. Not that you're a lunatic.

I agree with LL, and was going to say the same thing- I would start eating the Crohn's diet. It SUCKS, but I imagine it would be nice to feel you're being pro-active rather than waiting on a doctor to find something. And if it works even a little, nice to not be sick all the time.
