the only one ever just called Star Wars
A New Hope has always been my favorite (though I admit it is not the best of the movies (thats Empire).
This was the movie that started it all, introduced us to Vader and the Force and lightsabers. The movie Han Solo becomes a household name, with out this movie, none of the rest would have worked.

it's a good thing this wasn't "least favorite star wars movie" because i would have to find a way to vote for all three prequels simultaneously.

I'm a sucker for storylines where good triumphs over evil... and not just be blowing it up. The conclusion to Darth Vader's character is one of my favourite movie scenes ever.

Hard to believe Attack of the Clones is anyone's favorite.
It was soooooooooo ridiculous. I would say it had the worst love story (both acted and written) in the history of history. I mean, they actually resorted to rolling through a field of wild flowers. GAG! The arena scene was decent visually but that was the film's only redeeming quality.
I *gulps* saw "Empire" in the theater when I was a kid.
I will never forget it.

Honestly, the rest of the Star Wars series is pretty bad. The only thing good about the series as a whole is the amazing set of soundtracks by John Williams.
ESB for sure
But ROTJ and ANH are right behind. I love the original trilogy, no matter the cheesiness of some of the dialogue or goofy acting. It's Star Wars...and John Williams' score. I love the original score. Few bits of incidental movie music can beat the Mos Eisley cantina band.
