The single most accurate thing I saw in the aftermath of the election was a clip from Bill Maher, whom I despise. Actually, here's the transcript. Emphasis mine.

And they made the white working man feel like you're problems aren't real because you're 'mansplaining' and check your privilege. You know, if your life sucks, your problems are real. ANA MARIE COX: So, do you really think that's like liberals' fault? You know there's like that saying to --

BILL MAHER: Yeah, I do.

ANA MARIE COX: -- a white person equality feels like oppression.

BILL MAHER: If there's a silver lining from this, me personally, it's the two issues that I have been on the case of liberals for, and they've been booing me about this for years, and maybe they'll listen. One is political correctness. I think I did a show about that for nine years (ABC's Politically Incorrect).

You're outrageous with your politically correct bullshit and it does drive people away. And Islam. You know? Islam.

Democrats, there is a terrorist attack and Democrats reaction is: don't be mean to Muslims instead of how can we solve the problem of shit blowing up in America. And, you know, that's note a good way to get votes.

People I talk to online are constantly outraged that they have to modulate their behavior in order to win support. And I get that. It's fucked up that people don't recognize oppressive systems unless you're really nice to them. I get it. But do you want to be angry that the world is unfair or do you want to actually try and make it better?

I don't understand people who think you can have both.
