View original postI grant that certain areas needed to evacuate, but evacuations have increased as building codes have decreased the risk. More people "rode out" the storms in the past and while sometimes that was ill-advised, it only strengthens my belief that social media instill mass hysteria, whether it's a conviction the world has ended due to Trump being elected or panic about extreme weather. Soon we'll be shutting down everything each time it rains.
Since social media is responsible for everything except killing puppies. But the reality is that I was thinking more about the specifics of my family. My mom is not in good health; she can travel, but if she were to be stuck too long without electricity, meds, etc, she's the sort of person who gets high priority and the services would have to try to save her. On top of that, they live in an area covered in crappy, big, old trees, and know their house is less sturdy than they'd previously believed (have recently had work done). So, people who could go enjoy a mini vacation with almost no effort (they have several big cars, family up north, etc) staying put when they didn't need to was irritating.
You can disagree with my opinion if you want; that's expected. But it wasn't hysteria. I rarely read crap news these days, as I've developed a murderous allergy to words like "slams," "blasts," "rips" blah blah.
