And I am a bit worried about what they will try to do to the source material. Will it get the GOT effect and create an abomination like Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit'?

I will watch at least one episode. But I am very, very afraid. More afraid of this than the clowns with the red balloons.

Though who knows, maybe they are actually making The Silmarilion . That would be epic if they could succeed in bringing it to screen. And it could last many seasons.
