Humans are idiots, we create human tools and human culture to deal with the fact we are idiots. Furthermore we use other humans proxies to keep our individual human behavior in line. But these "external things" that we create often can fail and people forget that these things fail all the time "for I am not dead yet". It is a combination of "virtuous circles and vicious circles" that sometimes work towards a form of equilibrium and progress while other times there is no equilibrium and progress.

Just contemplate Mookie every single human being can trace their lineage back to a success story of a never ending chain back to some precursor such as Adam or Eve (or some other mammal ).

But not all humans can do this for humans die without reproducing but we forget about these humans stories and only tell the successful stories creating a form of "positive bias" inside our stories that we tell ourselves as individuals and we tell collectively.
