Words have meaning because of "relationships" between things and objects. Context is key, for we sometimes forget context clues allows us to say things with "less words" and shift the meaning of the words that are said out loud or written down.
For example someone saying "literally" the word has a completely different meaning when their facial movements are sarcastic or angry vs them being calm.
