Look at the disaster of Nicopolis. The Hungarian king warns the French crusaders that the Turks are going to feign retreat to lure them into a trap, and yet the French ride on into the trap anyway, and are slaughtered.
Or look at what Saddam Hussein did in 1991. "No, the enemy couldn't possibly outflank my positions, even though I know that I'm going to be blind because they'll wipe out my air force in a few days."
What the Hell exactly was Lee thinking at Gettysburg, either? Why was Custer so damn arrogant at Little Big Horn? What about the Mongols at Ain Jalut? What about the crusaders at Hattin?
Stupid plans exist in a real world. We just now see that they exist in GoT as well.
