The reviewer seemed to feel viewers get beaten around the head with tremendously unsubtle and sometimes far-fetched LotR references, while important parts of Tolkien's life are ignored or glossed over.

Only one review, of course, but it didn't exactly motivate me to go see it. But then I wasn't really planning to do that anyway.
