First, Jasmine was, as you say, buried in layers of clothing (and didn't wear the hot red slave girl outfit from the end of the cartoon). I think it's indicative of the problems of modern society that a cartoon from 1992 is more risqué than a live action adaptation in 2019.
Not only that, but the whole idea that Jasmine would be the sultan is laughable. We're talking about Islam, the "religion of peace" that brought us such gems as honor killings, female genital mutilation, the harem and the niqab. Oh wait, it's the sanitized version of Islam Disney wants us to believe existed in some magical land called Agrabah where an entire medieval Muslim populace would accept rule by a woman. After all, it's no longer a place where "they cut off your hand if they don't like your face".
The songs were weak and poorly delivered. The Prince Ali entrance was pretty good, but the rest of it was mostly crap. The main actors and actresses were terrible at acting, too, with the exception of Will Smith and the guy who played Jafar.
I will note that the only reason I saw this movie at all was because I was in Florida with my girlfriend and it rained that day so we saw Aladdin and then Ma. Prior to those two movies all I saw in 2019 was Detective Pikachu with my kids.
