I am aware of where you were going.
I was jumping it and simply saying that whether it is or is not under my control...it doesn't matter. I could be the best driver in the world, and still have high insurance because my car is not inexpensive to replace and I've got bad luck to be hit by someone else......TWICE. I could have higher fire insurance because the neighborhood I live in has far too many trees that are poorly maintained and some of which looks pretty dry. It doesn't matter.
Insurance isn't about what you can control. Its about replacing (in part) what was destroyed. Is it fair that men have higher insurance than women (when young)? You can't change that. Is it fair that good students get discounts? Nope....you don't know what I have to deal with to get the grades that I do. Is it fair that there are policies for people who can afford to have a lower deductible, while other people find both the higher rate & deductible devastating?

Do you think I am complaining about the high cost of insurance? For if that is what you think this is not what I am saying.
I am complaining about people who are scapegoating, and what started this conversation was people being able to redeem insurance that they paid for in order to start life over again after a massive property destruction by an act of god. Well people are angry that these people rebuild and same said people had insurance in case of disaster.
