"Suburban Jersey, not quite a dining hotbed." - some stupid TV show the other day

I was born and raised in suburban Jersey. Do you know what a pain in the ass it is finding someplace to eat when you leave the state? There are entire miles of road with one, or even ZERO places that serve food! I was in Cambridge once and I finally had to ask a cop where the nearest fast food place was. His directions started with "first you get on the subway..." I ended up having to try something new. And walk quite a ways for it. I had been under the impression that it was a college town. When my brother and I drove up there, it was around dinner time, and we figured we'd just look for someplace to eat when we got close to our friends' place in the suburbs near Boston. Around 7 or 8. Hahahahaha. There's apparently no place that's open at 8 o'clock in the Gas-on-their-Clothes 49 aside from in that foul-smelling people hive across the Hudson from civilization. A few years later, I was in Washington and my hotel was across the street from a McDonalds. I figured that would be good for one meal, and then for lunch the next day, I wanted pizza. The only place within walking distance of the hotel ALSO served Chinese food. It. What. They. Chinese. And Pizza. In the same restaurant. The next year, in town for the same thing, I didn't bother. I had McDonalds every meal except for the one night we ordered in Papa Johns and the other night my sister-in-law and her friend convinced us to eat in the hotel restaurant, where they put a light spoonful of food on a plate and spill some shit in a little trickle over it. A year or two ago, we were back because my brother was able to get passes to tour the White House (indirect result of the Cambridge trip, way back when). We got there the night before, had dinner (guess where) and tried to figure out a place to go for breakfast before we had to be outside the White House early for the security checks (seriously, it's the President's residence, why would anyone want to bring or do something dangerous there? ). Guess how many of the places between our hotel and the White House opened in time for us to eat breakfast and be out by 9:30? I can eat egg and cheese biscuits from Mickey Ds for breakfast every day, but I was under the impression grown-up dining consisted for more than that. But apparently, in our nation's capital, you have to sleep in on weekdays or make your own breakfast.

Some of us don't have to occupy large amounts of time manning gas pumps. We need someplace to eat in the meanwhile. So don't shit on New Jersey's dining options.
