Happens all the time. A friend of mine had her publications renamed when she got married.
Still weird. She was not married when she wrote them.
I have concerns about gender reassignment surgery, pertaining to the mental & spiritual well being of the victims/patients. I have sympathies for women who are uncomfortable with the threat to their privacy by people whom they perceive as male, and by the opportunities for exploitation by predators. I am infuriated by the idea of child abuse by way of juvenile transitioning and subversion of family and parental authority by advocates of the LGBTQWERTYIOP agenda indoctrinating children. I have no fears or discomforts about my own space being invaded by transgender or homosexual persons, and fewer problems with the idea of trans men competing in male sports than women attempting the same thing as the media seems delusionally certain is actually going to happen soon. I once had a possible prostitute touch me uninvited and I cannot imagine being more viscerally disturbed by a homosexual man's advances.
My position vis a vis the validity of gender reassignment therapy and surgery is informed by my views on body modification at all. I don't have much use for tattoos, piercings, cosmetic surgery or even superficial alterations like hair dye or excessive makeup or extreme and provocative clothing (pertaining to this, I don't get clowns - what's the point? Nor do I see any substantive difference between a clown and a drag monarch). I'm not crusading to put a stop to any of it, nor do I make assumptions about the character of such people, or their suitability for relationships or occupations. But I also believe people have the right to make whatever choices they wish regarding associations with the same. I'm basically pro-choice in regards to tolerance and diversity.
So when people mutilate themselves to conform to societal gender norms, I don't see it as any different from mutilation to conform to societal ideals of gender-coded beauty, or to transgress societal norms. I certainly don't see how cosmetic surgery affects a difference at the chromosomal level. If I, as a white man, am not qualified to speak to the experience or reality of women or persons of color, how is a person born male competent to self-diagnose his own feelings & mindset as those of a woman?
In short, I am not made uncomfortable by deviations from the gender binary or a flexible approach to classification. I simply reject its factual validity and judge those who persist in the fallacy and those indulge them as I would a belief in a flat earth or phrenology or alchemy. Or a person on the other side of the evolution, vaccination or climate change debate.
