The difference is this...
Gender Reveal:
A couple of people without malice and no intention of setting the fire were having fun trying to reveal the gender of their baby to themselves and their families.
Stupid? Yes. Malicious? No. Intent? Reveal the gender of their baby.
There are different type of gender reveal parties and you can instantly be aware of the energy if you are present at one what type of energy it is, but if you are far away from the party you use the same language even if the subject is very different.
I am all for people having an excuse to have a party, to bond with friends, family, work acquaintances, etc. I think we need more of these things in this era of Bowling Alone. Yes it is a silly reason to have a party but I do not think parties are better for serious reasons. Yes I am LGBT and I understand how talking about "gender / sex" of an unborn baby is kind of creepy, much like getting a 2 year old an outfit saying their are going to be a ladies man and a heartbreaker. But whatever I do not care for this is just joy.
But there are other type of parties that once you start involving explosives, fireworks, guns, etc that this type of party is not the same as the party I described above. They are far more performative, and also far more dangerous, and are just stupidity. shrug
It is like drinking, there is a difference from having a few drinks with friends, and having a dozen drinks each night for you are a drunk and during these drunken moments you are a danger to everyone else.
