If by defunding the police, you mean completely cutoff funding for policing, you're not really going to find much in the way of support for that view anywhere.
I can go to pretty much any social media site and find that exact view all over the place. I get that it's not espoused by politicians, but that's because they have to be somewhat realistic. To say that view doesn't get much support, however, is flat out wrong.
But what I find amusing is you sharing this kind of link. There's like a megabajillion such articles about some conservative or the other criticizing either Trump or some new right wing nut job conspiracy or idea.
I could be wrong but I was under the impression he was just laughing at the irony of Al Sharpton agreeing with Republicans about a common(!) talking point. I think I can speak for all of us when I say I'm very pleased you don't think defunding the police entirely is a good idea, but yeah, it's absolutely widespread.
Anyways, apparently it's been a rough day around the board today, so I'm trying to be respectful here, but otoh the fact that people are getting mad is good? because it means there's life on the board, so hey, cheers.
