My son's girlfriend has severe celiac disease so I was concerned as I know what a challenge it can be. No need to explain anything.

Grumbles about a several thousand dollar medical bill due to multiple investigations. Something that decimated savings and created debt for a couple years.

Only to find uncertainty, yet we know I have an issue, and have a rough idea of what causes the digestive issues. No magic name but scientists have a rough idea. Grumbles

It does not help that digestive issues run in my family, grandma celiac, aunt chron’s, father ulcerative colitis, me and a cousin likely same issue which you can not confirm you figure it out by process of elimination.

All of this is tied to a specific gene* that causes more autoimmune issues with joint, connective tissues and digestive systems. Remember I also have the spinal fusion and bent issue (AS), well that same gene is a major risk factor to that. Well this autoimmune gene variant causes several different problems where once exposed to an outside infection your body fights the infection very well and also gets false positives and fights your own tissues at times it does not make rational sense but your body is merely confused.

Note the celiac is two different gene variants which I do not have but my Irish grandmother had. Pretty much my genes are cursed. Except not quite cursed for the gene variant that gives my autoimmune disorder is also very good at fighting certain kinds of infections. It is common in Scandinavia, Germany, and places East of Germany. Well science speculation that it or another gene may have increased the survival rate of plague. What we are more certain of is that people with HIV are more likely to not have AIDS symptoms without medicine for this gene variant helps the body fight the infection (it is no substitute to medicine, and you still can get AIDS, the scientists are just still figuring all the details out.

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) B27 (subtypes B2701-2759)

**HLA-DQ2 allele or (less commonly) the HLA-DQ8 allele. 95% of people with Celiac has DQ2 or DQ8.

Note these disorders are not caused by single genes but instead combination of gene factors so this post is simplistic. There was a reason why I just was trying to skip explaining all these words
