Yes this is true, it is sum of it.

Other people are spiteful assholes who relish in being spiteful assholes. It is debatable how real this “psychological measure is” but in the political science literature it is called high-Social dominance orientation. There seems to be two traits of it, people who get a rush off dominating, get a rush off creating hierarchy and status and saying one is superior v. inferior. The other trait is the ability to see deserving / just desserts , like the rich got what they got for they are supposedly harder workers, smarter, are able to smell opportunities, etc.

Well high SDO means when your tribal side loses you think the world is turned upside down and the top of the map is now south instead of north. People who like to dominate have the excuse to be assholes.

Sometimes people like to be wicked, they like to create joy by control. A movement can be theatrical, silly, yet also deadly serious. This happens all the times with mobs.

Humans can be generous and kind, excellent - full of virtue, but we can also be venal and full of vice with warped human character.

Not all the people at the capital mob were lied too. Many knew what they were doing and gleefully choose to participate. The people who did pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, and assembled a wood platform to do a hanging...it does not matter the starting reason, or what drives them, enough is enough.
