It may not be a major factor but it's still a factor.
Again, we are going down a rabbit hole that is not easily served well without lengthy discussion. Interestingly enough, one area where I agree completely with the critical race theorists is on the evolution of "whiteness." In the 19th century, Irish, Jews and Italians were not considered to be as "white" as their English and Dutch predecessors. Legacy college admissions and skilled trade union memberships kept them out. But they eventually assimilated, something not as easily done by a person of color.
But again I digress. There is merit to discussing STEM careers and making them more diverse. Great strides have already been made to include women. The computer sciences are dominated by mostly men but some women from India in the corporate section. of course, many Desi have material and parental advantages that poor POC do not, as you well know.
Anyway, will you at least agree that categorizing carrying a hammer as problematic for an African American geologist is a little ludicrous?
