His reputation for skill at The Game came from Caemlyn. Killing Taringail was as least as impressive and a lot more consequential than killing Galldrian.
Like I said, the implication in the original was that he was infamous in Cairhien before moving to Andor and entering the service of House Trakand. And I think kicking off a civil war is a rather bigger consequence than heading off a plot that might or might not have succeeded (given the track record of Damodred family members' political schemes that's kind of a long shot).
