I had to get my password reset because it's been so long since I've been here. Now that the show is out, I had to check in and see what you had to say about it. I have no intention of watching this shitshow, so I'll watch vicariously through you.
It sounds like they're giving it the Legend of the Seeker treatment and butchering all of the characters. Out of everything I've read, the fact that they had Nynaeve having to be pressured into healing someone is the worst offense of all. That and removing Egwene's overzealous ambition for power and glory. Destroying Mat is also unforgivable. He's a rogue, not an addict waiting for his next hit of gambling and/or drinking.
I was talking to a friend earlier, who was on a constant rant about what garbage the show is and providing me with examples--he said he won't be the least bit surprised if Egwene turns out to be the hero who saves the world from Rand's bumbling because everyone knows men are useless.
The casting was horrible, IMO, but whoever wrote these scripts needs a kick in the ass. I'm sick of script writers taking creative liberties with material that is already done. At least GoT had an excuse, since GRRM won't get off his can and write the rest of the series. With WoT, it's out there. Use it.
The way I see it, they made him poorer than the rest to better motivate his fascination with money and short cuts to money.
If they ever get to making the battle of the Two Rivers, they can present him as a reformed, changed man, following the events of Winternight.
