I don't understand it. Amazon supposedly spent a lot of money on this. On what? Actors who can't act? Screenplays without any depth or skill? Directors who have no idea of plot development or pacing? Casting choices that place politics above believability? CGI that has "Mordor" replace "Southlands" in the cheapest, cheesiest way possible?
This was perhaps the worst thing I have ever seen on a screen. In some ways the indie pilot for Wheel of Time that was put out to try to keep rights from lapsing was better, and it wasn't the most expensive series ever created.
I've already expressed my disgust with the PC nature of the show. The girl power, the way people of vastly divergent ethnicities are all living together with no explanation for it, the preachiness, etc. I've railed against it for shitting on the source material. But let's not forget that on top of all of that, the writing sucked, the delivery was terrible and the pace was glacial. This show gets a 0 out of 10 on almost every single metric one could use to judge it, except for amount of money spent.
So where the fuck did the money go? Was this some huge operation to get Jeff Bezos's money into offshore bank accounts held by dummy companies owned by bearer shares to evade worldwide taxation on US persons? Is he funding a guerrilla war somewhere in Africa for the CIA and the show is just a front? Even at Robert Downey Jr. 1980s rates, you can't burn through that much money on hookers and blow. The money went SOMEWHERE. It just doesn't appear to have been spent on developing a show that was watchable.
