His age in itself isn't a reason to disqualify him, that's certainly true.

View original postOne of my progressive Facebook friends posted a meme today that has received hundreds of likes. It's a pic of Mick Jagger with the caption that he turns 81 this year so maybe he is too old to tour.
Just like it doesn't disqualify Jagger and other ageing rockers from touring as long as they can.
View original postSaying the general public is stupid is nothing new. Twain was pointing it out 150 years ago. But it does seem like the bar gets lower every year.
It's funny you should mention 150 years ago - that's almost exactly the time when an 82-year old man, William Gladstone, returned once again to lead the most powerful nation in the world at the time, the British Empire. And that was at a time when few people reached that age and health care was far less developed. There is precedent for effective octogenarian leadership, even it it's not a US president (of course the US Senate has a long list of powerful senators aged 90+, never mind 80, but ok, executive leadership isn't quite the same as legislative).
Age is just a number, indeed - it's his mental acuity that's the question. Not that he ever did have anything resembling Gladstone's abilities.
This is why I hate political memes
