That term has been used for months if not years, they didn't just make it up... Legolas Send a noteboard - 01/07/2024 11:52:54 PM

View original postI mean, why would they even bring up that imagery? The NYTimes aren't the ones wetting the bed, here, but they are wrong that a switch from Biden at this late date will help.

But certainly the 'bedwetters'' position has become a lot stronger after the debate.
View original postAfter months of crying about how Trump is a threat to democracy, the Dems are going to throw out even their sham of a nomination process so that... the Obamas and the Clintons can choose a new nominee in some back room somewhere? Someone who will have mere weeks to stand up a campaign? And Joe Biden's faction, who controls all the money raised thus far for "Biden For America" or whatever, is going to hand that money over to the person they pick?

This may come as a shock to Americans, but in just about any other democracy in the world, an election campaign takes only 1-2 months from start to finish.

Actually I rather think a significant part of America's political problems are due to its absurd election calendar - between the bi-annual Congressional elections and the absurdly long duration of the presidential election process, some sort of election campaign is ongoing for about 30 to 50 percent of each four year cycle depending how you count, which is utterly nuts. Is it any wonder then that politicians are too busy fundraising and campaigning to bother actually governing?

But as for your point about how it wouldn't help - certainly it wouldn't work to force him out if he doesn't want to. The suggestion is for him to voluntarily decline to run - in which case, yes, of course the Biden campaign would get as many resources to the other candidate as they could, or use their own resources in the other candidate's favour. And given the extremely high numbers of Americans, even on the Democratic side, who think Biden is too old / too much mentally weakened to run again, why wouldn't they prefer another candidate? Though not, of course, any other candidate, some would be more viable than others.

View original postWe really are going to get 4 more years of President Trump, aren't we? Jesus Christ.

From a foreigner's perspective, one is tempted to say Americans would get what they deserve, except it's not only the US he'd be fucking up for four years, but also the rest of the world.
