It jumped the shark in season one and could never recover.

The Rings of Power is worse, but Amazon signed a contract to produce 5 seasons, so.....

Different Amazon, but how are two directors worth $150 million for 10 total year of labor time?

Jonathan Nolan and his wife Lisa Joy, which are full of talent, supposedly getting paid $150 million for 5 years of work as various Directors and Producers.

NINE figures for 2 people, I remember when tv shows used to cost that for 10 episodes, for peter sake season 1 of game of thrones only cost $60 million (which is 15 years ago with the filming, and 20 years ago with the sit down / options talk)

grumpy sigh

I seem to be in the minority on this, but I thought season 1 looked like shit. It came across as so mean and grungy compared to the book story. HotD does the setting far better justice.

I also don't get the Nolan deal. I am a thorough fan of one show he ran, on CBS, "Person of Interest" but I could not get into "Westworld" which I understand didn't do so hot. PoI also seems to have been unsuccessful ratings-wise.

Maybe it's just that he's Christopher Nolan's brother? Family-wise, they've worked together on Christopher's films, and they really like casting their uncle, John Nolan. He's the board member trying to stop Bruce's fake-drunk rant to get the bystanders out of the mansion in "Batman Begins", the old man handing out refreshments to the newly arrived soldiers at the end of "Dunkirk" and a major endgame villain on "PoI." And of course, Jona Nolan has his wife getting paid in the contract, too. Maybe this deal means that Christopher will let them attach his name to products to help out his brother & sister-in-law.
