It's been confirmed that Mazrim Taim was supposed to be Demandred, but Jordan threw a tantrum like a five year old because everyone figured out what he naively thought was less obvious than it was.

If you really want to do Wheel of Time justice, you have to shit can everything after Lord of Chaos, the last fairly decent book in the series, and write 3 - and only 3 - books of Lord of Chaos length that finishes the series without all the superfluous horse names, interminably long "Faile is a prisoner of the Shaido" chapters, and make Mazrim Taim Demandred. THAT would be worth reading, if the right author could be persuaded. He could take chunks of what Jordan did write and then redo the Sanderson parts.
