I find myself continually both amazed and irritated by the incredible amount of political bullshit being spewed on social media. Ranting about it on those platforms is an exercise in futility, so I will shake my fists and shout get off my lawn here, where few will see it.

Virtually every politician with a D designation has been wringing their hands over what they claim is the Republican intention to make health care unaffordable. They are referring to the Obamacare subsidies, which are expiring. The claim is that without these subsidies, the costs will double.

I have questions.

First, a little history. These subsidies and credits were passed by the Biden administration in 2021 as a temporary Covid-19 measure. They were to expire at the end of 2022. Let me highlight that word: temporary.

In 2022, as part of the Democrat sponsored Inflation Reduction Act, these subsidies were extended until 2025. Once again, intended to be temporary.

So, we ask, why act as if "temporary" doesn't exist in the legislation your party wrote? Why set expiration dates so soon if the intention is to never truly let it ever end? You wrote both bills! Was the assumption, we will win everything in 2024, then we can do whatever we want?

Also, if Obamacare was such a great program that would make health care both available and affordable, why are costs continuing to skyrocket? Why is it suddenly necessary for the taxpayers to pick up more and more of the tab for less coverage? Why does "temporary" lose all meaning? (because government) Perhaps it was in reality, a boondoggle rather than a boon from its inception?

We all know that when the government says something is going to be temporary, we should expect to get butt fucked. Federal income tax was supposedly temporary to pay for World War I and look how that worked out. But merely because that has previously been the case, doesn't mean it should continue. Temporary means it has an end. If the underlying program needs continual additional support to survive, then it is fatally flawed.

Time to face the facts. President Obama wasted all his political capital on a legacy program that has failed. It has never delivered on its major promises and has become a black hole eating money. But the Democrats would much rather try to score political capital by painting all conservatives as heartless bastards who want poor children to lose medical coverage to enrich billionaires, than admit their central "accomplishment" of the 21st Century is a disaster.

Similarly with the shutdown. All we hear is the Republicans control the Presidency and both Houses of Congress, so they can end the shutdown whenever they want.

Except for the fact that passing the Continuing Resolution to fund government requires 60 votes in the Senate. There are 53 Republican Senators. Not 60. This simply means at least 7 Democrats have to break ranks and vote with the Republicans for the shutdown to end. So far, only one has done so.

Senator John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania. After each of the 13 unsuccessful Senate votes, Senator Fetterman has issued a press release stating he votes country before Party, and challenging fellow Democrats to do the same. Obviously, none have.

Interestingly, in his most recent release on X, Fetterman revealed that Senator Schumer tells them that the longer the shutdown continues, the better they will do in next week's elections.

Yes, this rant has been a tad one sided. So let me make something clear. Both parties suck. Both parties play politics with peoples lives. No one has the so called moral high ground. It doesn't exist.
